Moving Pods: An Effective Way of Moving Your Crap

By JR Smith

Currently, I'm a college student and with that comes a good bit of moving. Leaving dormitories for the summer, going into and out of apartments as roommates graduate and eventually graduating myself and moving to accommodate a new job location. Basically, I've had a need to move one or two times a year.

Having to shuffle living arrangements like the way I do is obviously a pain, particularly since I do most of the moving myself. Luckily, there are a few methods that helped me in the moving process. First, own less crap! That's always a good one for those who move often. Next, if you have a roommate make sure they're sticking around as long as you are, otherwise, it's back to square one, apartment and roommate hunting. Being a health enthusiast also helps out the moving process. Pumping additional iron every week really helps when one has to unload furniture every few months. All that lifting can tire out the arms.

The most effective tip I can give anyone, though, is investing in or renting moving pods. These things are back savers and make changing residency so much easier. For starters, when a pod company comes and drops one of these off they set it at ground level. Because of this, climbing up ramps and ladders isn't even an issue for those with blown out knees and back problems.

Furthermore, the stress level associated with moving is lowered if you rent a pod. After they've been loaded, moving pods are handled by the pods company. This isn't an Uhaul. The renter doesn't have to fear driving a truck and the consequences that come with it, such as the fear of crashing or otherwise damaging the rig. The pod company comes in and moves the pod for you so you're not liable for harming their equipment.

A more interesting aspect of pods is that they can be stored. The pod company uses a storage warehouse to hold and maintain pods and will retrieve it and ship it out whenever a renter requests. Essentially, it's like renting out a storage garage only you stuff will be hand delivered to you when you want it. It's very useful during college summer breaks I can assure you.

Moving pods are a great way to move and store all your crap. As a college student, I don't know where I'd be if pods weren't around most every time I moved.
