Ask the mover whether he can offer storage in transit for free or a small cost. 6. Give away plants, canned foods, fertilizers, paints, thinners, pesticides, and such. Never transport inflammables and things that can be replaced at a lower cost than the cost of moving. 7. If you are moving to a warmer place then put winter things into storage instead of paying to take them along. 8. Buy moving supplies at affordable rates. Ask your local grocer to give you empty cartons. Buy tape and sealing things at wholesale rates. Look around for people who have just moved, many sell the boxes for a flat rate. 9. Instead of bubble wrap use sheets, towels, t-shirts and newspapers as packing material. Maintain a diary with two columns costs and expenses provided by company. Be sure to collect deposits from libraries, clubs, and your old landlord and so on. While creating a budget set aside money for: a. Cost of a hotel room while moving. b. Food and beverage expenses for packers, movers, as well as the family. c. Cost of long distance phone calls. d. Cost of permits if you are moving across state lines. e. Insurance. f. Deposit for a new home. g. Estate agent fees. h. Costs of repairs, new supplies, rental expenses, utility deposits, rental of a storage unit and furnishings. i. Travel expenses for the whole family.
